This week at Forest School, the children have enjoyed spending time with one of our special friends, exploring numbers through fun, hands-on activities and shared learning.
Using magnetic numbers, the children practised recognising different numerals and tracing the shapes and lines that make them up. This was a wonderful opportunity to develop their number recognition, fine motor skills and early writing skills, all while learning through play. Once they had explored the shapes of the numbers, the children moved on to practising number lines, building their confidence as they began to understand number order and sequencing.
It has been lovely to see the children's enthusiasm and concentration as they explored these activities together. Every child approached the experience in their own way, with plenty of curiosity, discussion and opportunities to celebrate their achievements.
Our fascination with puzzles and games continues, too! The children are enjoying the challenges these activities bring, from working things out and solving problems to taking turns and sharing ideas. These interests have created a wonderful connection with our older adults, giving everyone opportunities to learn from one another, share experiences and enjoy meaningful time together.
There is something truly special about bringing generations together through play. Whether we are counting, completing a puzzle or enjoying a simple game, these shared moments help build relationships, encourage communication and create a real sense of belonging.
